Friday, February 2, 2007College students from Lewisville's Castle Hills community gathered over winter break to show school spirit and support for the community that is providing them with scholarships. Ninety students took advantage of the program for the 2005-2006 academic year and are attending schools all over the country. The foundation awarded those students a total of $159,000. The foundation awards up to $2,000 a year to students who receive passing grades. Each student can receive a maximum of $10,000 over a five-year period. The foundation has distributed $366,000 in college tuition reimbursement since 2002. With paraphernalia that showed school spirit from Texas Tech, Baylor, UT and more, all were excited to be there and thrilled to have been awarded scholarship money. Although many were wearing different school names, there was one name they shouted in unison: "Castle Hills." "We have had three children in college who benefited from the Castle Hills Scholarship," said Renee Mears, mother of Brandon and Ashley (pictured) and recent graduate, Travis. "That means we can receive up to $2000 per school year per child in reimbursement and all we have to do to qualify is live in Castle Hills. We are really proud that Castle Hills places so much emphasis on the importance of education." Castle Hills currently provides every resident's child in the community with a scholarship if they attend college.
